1) The one child police: the purpose of which was to limit the great majority of family units in the country to one child each.
2) The program initiated in the late 1970s and early ’80s by the central government of China, On September 25, 1980, called all to adhere to the one-child policy.
3) The policy was enforced through a public letter and there were exceptions because in some instances the first born was handicapped.
4) One problem it caused was that people wanted males to carry on the name so they would get abortions if it was a girl. And more girls went to orphanages. There was also a growing proportion in the population of elderlies and there were less people to take care of them. Another consequence was when the families would hide children it would be hard to get them education because they are undocumented.
